Deepalaya has been working in the field of integrated development since 1979. Apart from Education the other issues with our organisation have been community health, gender equity, mainstreaming differently able etc. We have achieved a lot and there have been failures too. Like any other grassroot level implementing organisation one of the weakness of Deepalaya is lack of proper documentation. We believe that our Volunteers can help us in documenting the achievements and failures in a better way. This would also help us to have views which are not biased unlike in the case of insiders or implementors.

Implementation Manuals
Deepalaya is a large and structured organization. We have set rules and procedures for almost every activities be it programmatic or administrative. What is required is to consolidate all related documents and develop manuals.

Girl child
Deepalaya has been practicing positive discrimination towards the girl children from the day one. When we started working in the Delhi slums the enrollment rate of the girls was only 12%. It has now crossed 50% because of our intervention through positive discrimination. Not only enrollment we have had great achievements in organizing mothers, developing women leadership in the communities and raising the income level. It is required now to capture the progress and difficulties in the right light so as to enhance the process achieving gender equity. This would require few visits to the concerned project sites, meeting beneficiaries and consulting primary and secondary data.

Mainstreaming differently abled
Like the projects on girl children we need to capture the initiatives taken for the disabled children (we call them “differently able”).
