Another feather in Deepalaya’s cap!
A feather in Deepalaya’s cap was added in September 2004 when REACH India selected Deepalaya, out of the many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that it studied. It is one of the Capacity Building Grantees for implementing a programme for educating out of school children. Deepalaya is expected to ensure identification, education, enrollment, mainstreaming and retention of a minimum of 3,000 out of school children in North, North West, West and South West Delhi by August 2007. This is to be accomplished through supporting and guiding six non governmental organizations in these areas.
What is DRIP?
DRIP is the acronym for Deepalaya REACH India Programme, a programme for educating underprivileged out of school children supported by REACH India, USA and implemented by Deepalaya, Janakpuri, New Delhi through six NGOs selected from North, North West, West and South West Delhi.
REACH India
REACH India stands for ‘Reaching & Educating At-risk Children’. This is a project jointly carried out by the American Institutes for Research (AIR), Juarez and Associates, Michigan State University and World Education under the auspices of the Educational Quality Improvement Program. The term At-risk Children, is defined for this purpose as children (especially girls), up to 14 years of age, who are either out of school or are in school but in danger of dropping out
Role of Deepalaya
- Identification and selection of sub-grantees
- Capacity Building of Sub-Grantees, through training programmes designed for Organization Development, Programme Planning & Implementation,
and Financial Management - Scrutiny and approval of project proposals and budgets of Sub-Grantees in consultation with REACH India
- Approval, disbursement and administration of financial support to Sub-Grantees
- Guidance to Sub-Grantees in the implementation of the programme through training at Deepalaya Human Resource Center and guidance at programme sites
- Documentation and reporting to REACH India
The Budget
Overall budget for a period of 35 months from October 04 to August 07, is Rupees 1.72 crores, out of which nearly 77% is for the six selected NGOs, called Sub-grantees for implementing a 30 months’ (February 05 to July 07) programme and the rest is on Deepalaya for building the capacities of these sub-grantees and guiding in the implementation of the programme.
