Of flying colors. Literally!
March 10, 2009 : Just when the entire Deepalaya family rejoiced Reena and Brijesh's achievement at the Special Olympics, another champion was in the making back home at Chhaya, Deepalaya's Institutional Care baby. Sidhu, as they call him, the eldest of all children at Chhaya, the boarding school of Ramditti JR Narang Deepalaya campus, took everyone by a pleasant surprise in a unique competition.
The Worldwide Paper Plane Contest 2009, sponsored by RedBull, was all about paper plane fliers from 85 countries across the world who would compete in three categories with a goal to fly, not land and thus, reach the World Finals of the sport. The three categories namely longest airtime, longest distance and acrobatics would adjugde the best paper plane pilot on basis of the Regionals followed by the Nationals and ultimately the World level competitions.
Victory prevails
On February 5, Deepalaya Chhaya's kids, four of them Sidhu, Sunil, Suman and Suraj, participated in the Regional level championships held at St Stephens College, University of Delhi. The four participated in the 15-year-olds categories and did a fairly good show. Our champion, 17 year old Sidhu, won the second price in Airtime Category and made it to the National Finals in Bangalore on March 1st. It was indeed a big moment for Chhaya kids.
My ticket to the Finals
The boys who were out on a fun day had a great time on the campus. The saw and enjoyed learning about what a University is. They were very impressed by the level of the students, the fluency of their English and the funky looks! They had lunch at the cafeteria, based on Maggi and decided it was the best food in the world. It was a colorful day indeed!'
