Malls, Sweeping Away The Monotony

Dec 12th, 2007 Tags: American Express, Amex

Ask anyone about the best freak out and 90% the response you’ll receive will be, ‘Going to a Mall’.

Children in Shopping Mall with AMEX

AMEX (Financial Center East) gives a visual treat to Deepalaya kids. Children enjoy a commercial flick at Pacific mall in East Delhi.

Sales and bargain deals, attractive prizes and schemes are the sure fire success formulae that the shopkeepers, showroom, super bazaars and multiplexes use to lure visitors in huge numbers.

While PVRs and Malls are talk of the town there is still a section of the population which has never climbed those stairs. In another Corporate Responsibility Gesture AMEX (Financial Center East) took a class of 100 students out to a movie spree in one of the biggest mall of New Delhi. For children it was the first experience to see a movie in a multiplex theatre.

The PVR staff welcomed the children individually with a warm hand shake. The movie screened was the Bolloywood hit, “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ starring Abhishek Bacchan and Priety Zinta along with other leading stars. “I have never seen such a big screen. It was fun being there”, quips 13 years old Vaibhav from one of the Deepalaya School. Pawan of class VIIIth had this to say, “Mast movie thi! I could never dream off visiting a mall and seeing a movie in PVR. Thanks to Deepalaya and AMEX.”

“Where malls today are described for comfort, style, convenience and being cool, we thought why not to share these experiences with poor kids. We are really happy to see their smiles and enthusiasm”, shared an official from AMEX (Financial Center East) accompanying the children. Children were offered snacks and Coke during the intermission, which they relished a lot. While returning from the visit children sang and danced on the movie songs.

AMEX (Financial Center East) had been meeting their corporate social responsibility in diverse fields from time to time. Each activity has added to the learning experience and exposure of the children of Deepalaya. Some children decided to pen down their experience in the mall and theatre. Some are available here…

We invite more corporates to join hands with us and bring delight into the lives of underprivileged children. Yes, mall culture is one that consumers are happy about; why not share our happiness with these children in many more ways open to us…!
