A training program on Medical Aid for High School students was conducted by the Embassy of Israel and Ritanjali (an NGO of Vasant Valley School) in collaboration with medical cadets from Palestenstein Institute for Research in Belinson Medical Centre at Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension.
40 students, including a mix of female and male students participated in the three days workshop. The topics covered on the first day of training were adult resuscitation and hemorrhage control. On the second day infant resuscitation and medical dressing were taken up. On the final day handling of major and minor burns, animal stings and bites, fractures etc were covered. An overview of the entire training program was also done.
The four hours session each day imbibed Deepalaya students with numerous first aid techniques they can use quickly during emergencies at home, work place or when at trips. The training was imparted by a group of five NCC cadgets.
Along with the demontration the students interestingly learnt and enjoyed from the practical sessions. Starting from the very basic as checking pulse, knowledge about different thermometers, using bandages in heavy injuries etc the students learnt about giving false respiration and how to deal with diffrent kinds of emergencies.
The students found the workshop very useful. They also learnt how to create their self help first aid kit available for their immediate rescue. Rishali, a student of ninth standard from Deepalaya School, Kalkaji says, “We learnt the technique of providing artificial breathing and what immediate action we can take when suddenly someone becomes unconscious. It was really interesting to learn all that. “ She further adds, “I aspire to be a pilot and this training will really help me in time of need. I wish such trainings are organized time and again, I am sure in some way or the other it will benefit all.”
The NCC cadgets shared their experiences about their adventurous trips. Deepalaya students without blinking their eyes were relentlessly listening to their heroic exxperiences. The students gathered all materials as guided by the trainers and made a ready to use traveling first aid kit too. Furthermore, they said they will make these beneficial skills taught to their parents and neighbours too.
