“Lighted to Enlighten”

Oct 15th, 2006 Tags: none

Team Deepalaya participated Phir Se in the Hutch Delhi Half Marathon (HDHM) 2006 which happened on the 15th of October. at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. This year Deepalaya promoted the cause of the “Differently Abled’’ children who the world sees as ‘disabled’. Presently Deepalaya is working with 600 physically and mentally challenged children providing them with various rehabilitative services like special education, physiotherapy, vocational training, and mobility aids.

About 340 people consisting of enthusiastic students, teachers, development workers, friends and well wishers of Deepalaya participated in the Great Delhi Run of 7 kms spreading message of Deepalaya’s work. In addition, we also had three Dream Runners who raised One lakh rupees each. They were Mukta Mandal, Shyam Narayan Verma and Avijit Dey. Inspired by Deepalaya’s vision “Lighted to Enlighten”, they had taken it upon themselves to help Deepalaya reach out to many more like them especially the physically and mentally challenged. Avijit Dey, Sr. Manager – Programme at Deepalaya, has grown in his association with the organization for the last 12 years and through this event has accepted the challenge of spreading word and raising funds for the ‘special children’, discriminated & ignored by the society.
The IMRB (Indian Marketing & Research Bureau) also participated in The Corporate Challenge category by pledging Rs.1.5 lakh for Deepalaya. We are grateful to both the company and its employees for further strengthening our work with the Differently Abled children. Through the generous support from our well wishers and friends Deepalaya was able to raise Rupees 4, 84,467 (IMRB contribution not included yet) through this event. Sincere thanks to all those who made it happen.
Deepalaya participation in HDHM was also covered by media. Mukta and Shyam were interviewed by the Indian Express (08/10), Pioneer (14/10) and their participation also got a mention in the Times of India (11/10).
