The Deepalaya Interact Club

Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension held the installation ceremony of Interact Club on the August 21, 2006 at the School campus. Every year the members of the club are elected through election. The 33 members Club include the President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, four directors and office bearers. In 2003, the first Deepalaya School Club was formed. Since then, the members of the club have undertaken several developmental activities in the community and the school. Ravi Pahuja was elected the President this year. Rtn. T. K. Mathew welcomed the guests and all the members present. After the pinning ceremony the chief guest, Dr. Sushil Khurana encouraged the students. He informed them about the evolution of Rotary Club. He also explained that the word INTERACT was formed by clubbing the words, INTERNATIONAL and ACTION. He suggested students to plant more trees and nurture them like their own. Dr. Rakesh Chopra promised to give a workshop to 50 students on the September 9, 2006 absolutely free on “how to achieve 100%”. Mr. Rajan Mathai asked the students to get in touch with the Rotarians and take advantage of their support in their activities. He also wants the students to work on a major activity on International level.
All the new members were pinned by Senior Rotarians on this occasion. Then, they took the oath of office. Ex- President Gautam passed on the President Collar to Ravi Pahuja. The Deepalaya Interact Club is part of the Rotary South Metropolitan, Delhi. Interact is the lowest rung of the Rotary International, where School children are members of the club and take part in developmental activities. Rtn T.K. Mathew, Secretary and Chief Executive of Deepalaya, is the president of South Metropolitan Club. The ex- Secretary of the club Ms. Ambika read out the report of the activities undertaken last year. She informed that last year, the students undertook drives in the community against the use of firecrackers in Diwali and chemical colours for Holi at national level. They also held campaigns for cleanliness and adult literacy in the community. Greeting cards were sent to 16 embassies on their National days under International level activity. The financial report was also read out.
The present Secretary informed the plan of action for this year. He said that this year, the students plan to work closely with the MCD in cleaning the road leading to the school and make the authorities of Jal Board give water connection to the school. They will organize competitions in the school and would spend quality time with children in an orphanage. They will also strengthen the activities undertaken by the last Club members. The Interact Club has really empowered the students. Some of them said that they feel very happy to work for the betterment of the Society. At the same time, it has made them more responsible, confident and compassionate individuals.
