Urvashi aspires to fly high by becoming an Air Hostess one day. She studies in tenth standard of Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extention. But her less privileged background was posing hurdles in her ambition. Now, Oriflame India is translating the dreams of thousand girl students including Urvashi into a reality, by sponsoring their education for a period of three years. This amount will not only meet their school education expenses, but will also facilitate them to acquire vocational training from the best professional institutes.
Renowned Model and Actress, Malaika Arora Khan graced the Media Launch of the Oriflame Girl Child Project. Malaika, the recently appointed brand ambassador and spokesperson of Oriflame along with Tomas Eriksson, the Managing Director of Oriflame India presented a cheque of 2.7 Crore Rupees to Mr. T. K. Mathew, Secretary and Chief Executive, Deepalaya and girls of Deepalaya on 19th July 2006. Elated Malaika said, “I am overwhelmed to be a part of such a noble cause, and this is the best endorsement I have ever done.” The programme commenced with Saraswati Vandana recital by Deepalaya girls. The students mesmerized the audiences with their special song and dance performances. The students were thrilled to meet Malaika and receive bags from her.
The thousand sponsored girls aged between four to seventeen years study in four different schools of Deepalaya. These include Deepalaya School, Sanjay Colony; Deepalaya School, Kalkaji Extension; Deepalaya School, Gole Kuan and RJRND School, Malviya Nagar. Deepalaya is the first Indian NGO to be sponsored by Oriflame Indian CSR initiative. Oriflame is a Swedish Cosmetic Distribution Company, with sales in 57 countries worldwide. Tomas Eriksson, Managing Director, Oriflame India said confidently, “We believe strongly in the administration and work of Deepalaya. We are sure that the money will be utilized in the best possible way for the girls.” Mr. T. K. Mathew, Secretary and Chief Executive, Deepalaya got emotional on this occasion and thanked Oriflame for their generosity towards Deepalaya. Mr. Mathew said, “With this support, we will be able to provide quality education at affordable cost to the children. I hope these girls will make their mark in the future and make their country proud of themselves.”
