A New Horizon in Education

May 29th, 2006 Tags: none

It is indeed a new horizon for hundreds of children residing in the slums of Shalimar Bagh in North West Delhi. "Education on Wheels" a project in collaboration with the Edukans Foundation will now make education accessible to working children who may not otherwise have access to school. This project will introduce a mobile learning bus for children who work and live in congested areas where there is no space to run a regular school.
The Mobile School Bus was inaugurated on 29th May’ 06 by Ms. Lianna Hoornweg from Edukaans. The other guests included Ms. Veronica George of Sesame Street, Mr. Mukesh Sharma, the designer of the Bus, members of Shalimar Bagh Welfare Society, children from the nearby slums, staff and Board members of Deepalaya. The forty two seater bus is equipped with folding seats, a T.V, a computer, a library and facilities for storing water. The bus can cater to fifty children at a time.
The children presented a skit entitled ‘Jadu Ka Brush’ based on a Chinese story. In the story the main character achieves his dreams with the help of a magical brush. The play compared ‘Education" to the magical brush which will help to achieve all our dreams and goals.
