January 24th was an important day for the students of Deepalaya School Kalkaji extension. They were privileged to listen to a recital by Shri Abhay Rustum Sopori, eminent Santoor player and winner of the prestigious‘Kalawant Samman’award. The musical evening was organized by Youth Reach & Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts. The program was an attempt to introduce the rich legacy of Indian classical music to the children. An interactive session followed the recital where children showered Abhay Sopori with queries. He explained what Tal is along with the different Bols and encouraged the students to repeat the Sargam of the Alap with him. He appreciated their enthusiasm and informed them they sang with the beat that had been missing at most of his other shows. Many amazing facts about the 100 stringed instrument were revealed and children discovered contrary to the popular belief its West Asian origin is only a myth!
