The delegation was accorded a traditional welcome with the ritual tikka and garlands. This was followed by a melodious Japanese song, rendered by the students. They had learnt this and many more from a Japanese volunteer who had done a placement at the school.
The Secretary & Chief Executive Rtn T.K. Mathew then briefed the visitors about the organization, its philosophy and activities. He recalled with gratitude the generous support Deepalaya had received from the Japanese Govt. under its Official Development Assistance Program. The School building at Kalkaji, the vocational training institute and Girls Hostel at Deepalaya Gram (rural Haryana) have been supported under this program.
And the visit on the 15th, was another opportunity for Deepalaya to flavor the generosity of the Japanese once again. The delegation made a donation of Rs.40000 to support activities at the School.
To gain a better understanding of the situation in the slums the group then visited the Sanjay Colony slums in Okhla. It was an eye opener indeed. This visit helped them appreciate Deepalaya’s services better and the difference the organization was bringing into the lives of the underprivileged.
